A: Desire (Original Mix)
The intro to 'Desire' is very 4 Strings indeed. The style of the gently pulsing basses and percussive rhythms should all be quite familiar to you. One thing to note here, is the extra depth and fullness that the track benefits from right from the start. This is down to some good work with the bass which was also evident in 'Sunrise', so its nice to see this style retained. The breakdown is where everything else stems from in this track. From an eerie silence a melody emerges. The synth is distinct - a pure set of clear tones being coaxed forth with the aid of some sumptuously gentle pads. The melody itself has a unique kind of beauty. It has an almost lonely feeling to it, as the synth solitarily plays out the echoed notes above the deep backing. This is a great little moment in trance which has a great summery feeling. 4 Strings really knows how to grab onto the emotions and this is another fine example of that.
AA: Desire (DJ 4 Strings Mix)
This mix of 'Desire' is very similar in structure to the original, but it is in a tougher style. The kicks are much heftier and the now rather driving bassline has some cool and deep funky undertones which add a pleasant 'grooviness' to the track. The synths used, including the lead, are more powerful - they are the same style, just maxed out so they have a distorted edge to them instead of the long pure sounds found in the original. Even through these much coarser sounds though, the melody still shines through as something beautiful and its only after it has done a few repetitions in your head that you realise this. By this time, the track has dropped and the backing synths and pads are on the go too and your second realisation is that you're loving it already, just in a slightly different way.
Conclusion:
4 Strings have again proved their ear for a wonderful melody. Because of that, 'Desire' helps to keep that warm, summery feeling alive.
