Kim Fai - Excuses:
When Kim Fai remixed Funkagenda's 'What the Fuck' to produce a mammoth Tech House banger that went straight into the Beatport Tech House chart last year, people said Kim what? But now he's back with his latest album 'Kissing in Krakow' which was released on the 24th of September digitally for 'Toolroom records'. After giving his compelling release a few drops, a track that especially caught my low frequency driven attention was the number four off his album entitled 'Excuses'.
The track kicks off with a deep kick and a seemingly massive rigorous bassline that slowly builds up into the track. The buildup is continuous for around a minute when the synth work starts kicking in. A very well worked shimmering melody soon takes over the deep layers of the massive bassline, combining with the eclectic random EFX to produce what is surely one this years hottest club bangers. The most striking aspect of the track is the 'slap in your face' massive bassline that gets the low-frequency freaks flying! Fai's excellent work on the synth produces a melody that that envelopes you and draws you right in. It’s that dreamy melody that gives this track the special edge, being that so many recent tracks with similar fat basslines have failed horribly simply because they lacked that melodic dreamy edge. The track features two breakdowns, the main one on the 3:15 minute mark which kicks off on the same melodic path that has accompanied the track throughout and builds up the bassline while Fai slowly reverbs the sythns work on the track.
An excellent track for different parts of the night, but one would bet that this track would cause the most damage during peak hours. The track is also a perfect tool for DJs to add on accapellas or mash up live to. It’s no wonder Mark Knight said he hardly does any single set without having a Kim Fai record in it, and it certainly isn’t a surprise that Funkagenda labeled Kim Fai as 'the man on a mission'! Excuses is surely a milestone in achieving this man's mission, a mission to educate the masses on quality music! Kim Fai is surely one of most talented young producers at the moment, and with this latest release, Fai has cemented himself as the 'one to watch'!
