Organizing Songs

First, how big is your amount?

Second, what i did is categorize them according to release years. I have folders named 1998 to 2008. I used to find the release year of each track. I know that it's time-consuming but it's worth! I could categorize even more by creating subfolders Progressive, Uplifting, Vocal in each folder, but that's useless and you would get lost even more.

Third, i use both external hard disks and dvds, but the second is safer than the first.

now i have only around 70 GB since im not that new into Trance music as much as u guys have ... ye3ni u have been here since 1998 as ur saying ... so now i want to have some ideas on how to organize the tunes ... and i think im going to start putting them into DVDs thats better ... thx a lot again

ye3ni u have been listening to trance since 1998 ... but am still confused on what 2 do with the songs ... to write them on DVDs or get a HDD cz the songs i have are slowing the laptop so i rly have 2 do something about it :S

just put them on dvds man...better than an external hard disk...i had more than 200 gbs and they were really fuckin my laptop up...categorize them according to release years and put every month on its own on dvds...

Categorizing 70GB of music by release year will take 2 weeks if you do every day 40-50 tracks

I organize them in a complicated way, using colors, but thats to help me when mixing.

well yeah its gona take me a long time but i dnt have any other solution and i have some tunes that are already organized ... and GOOD THINGS HAPPEN TO PEOPLE WHO WAIT

never ever and i say EVER! put all ur data on one HDD! if it gets f*cked up (and it will eventually) you'll lose everything! go for DVDs - there's now double layered DVDs and even Blu-Ray! great solution for backing up data/mp3s.
for organizing you'll need a neat software to organize your database and it'll be easy to find anything! i've been using such database since 1997 and it's working like a charm! with few seconds i can find any release i want.
