One hell of an interresting topic
Maybe I could give my own experience regarding this topic and then discuss things a bit further to make it clear...
I used both softwares and hardwares in mixing and I find a lot of differences between them although they both have advantages and disadvantages.
- The good thing about softwares is their more advanced technology compared to hardwares and having some extra options which in most of the cases make mixing kinda easier than using a hardware, it also has a huge screen in front of you (example of a laptop) so you can actually have a full view of what you are doing and can figure out the best way for mixing ur songs by looking at their structure, breaks, beats, keys, and alot more...
But on the other hand, the negative things about them is IMO not having the real "Live feeling" of DJing...You cannot really interact with your crowd the same way you do with hardwares, you cannot actually turn some nodes, a jog wheel and bang the Cue button, hell yeh! when using softwares those feelings are completely dead, how can you see a DJ being hyper on the DJ Booth by using a mouse and doing some clicks here and there, which will actually force him to look at the Laptop screen (and not on the crowd like what happens with a hardware)!?
Can you actually play with the EQs by having the same precision on a laptop? I don't think you actually can!
Raneem you mentioned that in the near future all hardwares will dissapear and turn into softwares, and I'd like to say something regarding this issue...
First of all do you consider a CD player having a small screen with the tracks display and information a hardware, a software or a blend of both? Cause I personally consider it a blend of both, and that's exactly what I guess the future equipments will become (offcourse in a more advanced way), because an ordinary laptop cannot do the job IMO, but maybe a special laptop for DJing (that wil maybe appear later would, and which I will also consider a blend of both a hardware and software one), which will probably have a speciall keyboard on it, maybe some nodes here and there, and some buttons for effects, and offcourse the huge screen infront of you!...
and
Crow you mentioned that you cannot afford equipments for "live DJing" but you can actually afford software for the same purpous...But I guess the cheapest softwares out there are no less than 500$, that's by excluding the laptop's price...so it's not a matter of price actually but of being more comfortable...that's it...
