
Above & Beyond have won the inaugural BBC Radio 1 'Essential Mix of the Year' award, as voted for by the listeners of BBC Radio 1. The news was announced during Pete Tong's Essential Selection radio show on Friday the 17th of December, during a special live broadcast from Turnmills in London.
Jono and Paavo were there to accept the award from Pete and gave a big shout out to fellow Above & Beyonder Tony McGuinness, who was listening in the US. During a live interview, Pete asked Above & Beyond how they had approached the mix and what had inspired them. The boys explained that they had put a lot of thought into every record – in many cases making exclusive edits of tracks - and that Paul Oakenfold's legendary Goa mix had always been a big inspiration to them.
Above & Beyond's winning mix was re-broadcast on BBC Radio 1 on 26th December, but you can still listen to the show on playback on the BBC Radio1 website:
