The hopes and wishes of many were finally answered in 2008 with the release of the long-awaited OceanLab studio album and as one of its most uplifting moments ‘On A Good Day’ needs no further justification for being the fourth single on what also happens to be an excitingly diverse remix package.
Leading from the front the album mix gets the Above & Beyond club treatment as the vocals and delicate piano keys are transported into uncompromisingly exhilarating peak-time domains. And the album cut is here too in all its splendour, a wonderfully reminiscent number anchored (of course) by Justine’s silken vocals and gently eased along by a luscious combination of sweeping synths and subtle guitar strokes.
Danish superstar and master cueman Daniel Kandi pops by for the next remix and things are guaranteed to go off as he puts a classically energetic and characteristically joyful spin on proceedings. Then the sounds of Anjunabeats and Anjunadeep intertwine as the 16 Bit Lolitas deliver two blissful reinterpretations, with the first completely deconstructing the album cut by phasing out the vocals and original piano melodies and rebuilding it with a tranquil, almost meditative feel which embraces their own lingering piano touches and captures the essence of those contemplative moments. The Downbeat remix reinstates the vocals alongside a relaxed groove for a more minimal perspective before Jer Martin soothingly brings the serene journey to a close with a flowing adaptation that allows the more subtle elements to take centre stage.
