The problems and effects of Internet file sharing on the music industry are well known. That is why renowned Berlin dj and producer Paul van Dyk has created a revolutionary and visionary concept to offer users legal electronic music downloads rather than illegal downloads from the global web which affects the industry as well as artistic progression. In the digital age there are many radio stations on the web - broadcasting from all over the world. Many also offer the option of legal music downloads. However this does not seem to combat the problem of file sharing and illegal downloading.
So we asked ourselves, are all the people illegally downloading music driven by criminal intent? It is clear from conversations and exchanges in chat rooms and message boards that this is not the case. Quite often they are music lovers searching for both old and new rare tracks.
