Listen up people, because this endless discussion has got to end.
A few years back, most of you (who were into the music then) were praying that the day would come when these DJs would get imported to Lebanon.
Others have been converted through this or that event, and ever since have been wanting more and more DJs to come.
When MixFM & Bacardi began getting these DJs that the old-schoolers wished for and that the new-schoolers ended up enjoying and wanting more, MixFM & Bacardi were hailed as the pioneers of the Lebanese EDM scene, and their contributions to building the scene were deemed invaluable.
And what is going on now? The same organizers are being bashed by the same supporters for the all opposite reasons that they previously held! Truly, typical Lebanese behavior.
The only feeling you ought to have towards MixFM & Bacardi is gratitude, because without them there wouldn't be a scene in the first place for other organizers to emerge from and contribute to. This whole "two events on the same date" has been resolved already: Warren was booked way back from Decemeber and DannyB didn't know the date when they booked Graham, period. Enough with the labeling that us Lebanese have mastered ever since the days of the war; there are no "monopolizers" we ought to despise nor "victims" we ought to pity, but there are different organizers who offer different events in different ways. Thus, you are fully entitled to have a different opinion towards each organizer, as long as that opinion is based on rational judgement and not emotional impulse. And consequently, you are fully entitled to choice.
But for God's sake, when two events are thrown on the same night, don't choose which one to go to on the basis of which organizer you want to support and which organizer you have spite against, but on the basis on which DJ's sound you enjoy more, as I am doing by opting for Warren despite of how much I want to support DannyB. And try to get a hold of a liveset or a compilation of those DJs before taking that decision, not judging off their productions and ending up getting disappointed as with Deep Dish.
Gratitude, my friends, is the only feeling us clubbers should have towards organizers. Even if their competition reaches the intensity of a war (and I am not implying that it has), clubbers should stay away from fire and continue dancing around it. These organizers are bringing to our doorsteps some of the biggest names in dance music today, and all are equally turning Beirut into a global clubbing capital by doing so. So let us show them our gratitude by giving them our support instead of engaging in a neverending rope-pulling game that will minimize on our enjoyment of the event(s). Support your local organizers, and hopefully the day will come when you will be able to support your local DJs properly, a group of people who play an equally important role as organizers in building any scene, but who are not yet shown the support they merit in our scene.
Thank you MixFM & Bacardi for hosting Nick Warren and Jan Carbon.
Thank you DannyB for hosting Tall Paul and Max Graham.
Thank you S.U.C. for hosting Kuffdam & Plant (and my favorite local DJ).
Thank you Peppermint for hosting Marco V and Brian Cross.
Gratitude for organizers, hope for more names we love, and nothing besides.
