for your info- Bahrain has hosted the following DJs in the last 2 years:
Benny Benassi
Danny Rampling
Armin Van Buuren
Ferry Corsten
Paul van Dyk
Sander Klienenberg
Christopher Lawrence
and more ....
(my reply on the whole situation from various forums)
I arrived to Petra on Wednesday afternoon, and didn't hear anything from anyone until Thursday night when one of the ravers in the VIP section came up and said "what happened in Bahrain" all i was able to say was "ohh he was booked to play there, but I havent' heard anything yet.."
then backstage I bumped into Dimitri, Tiesto's manager (met him in Beirut in 2005)... after a quick catching up on things I asked about Bahrain and how was the gig (not knowing what happened happened) WOAH!... WHAT?? NO WAY!!! HOW INSANE!!
He said it was the worst experience he ever had as a manager... claiming they arrived to Bahrain and haven't recieved full payment yet- although the promoter said "hold on, i'm bringing it for you"..
5...6...7....8...9pm they got a briefcase delivered with 20,000 euro- missing the other 80,000 euro... as the night progressed they just kept put at the hotel and refused to go to the gig...
meanwhile all the youtube.com videos show EXACTLY what was going on with that MC that kept saying "I came all the way from london, england for you tonight... please calm down bahrain massive... mutha fukkas!"
despite the picture not being too clear on youtube.com, I suggest you watch them step-by-step to see how the MC actually made the situation 20 times worse!!!
if we have a cancellation, first thing is to announce it calmly... not to say "Tiesto is here, but he wont come on stage until you calm down" cause that was bullshit... another thing on the videos I noticed it they "pretended" tiesto was there and said "please tiesto say something, tell us your here" and some guy got on the mic and pretended to be tiesto saying some gibberish with a horrible fake accent...
again my observations are from Tiesto's manager and from the youtube videos...
this is a DISGRACE to what all us promoters/djs/ravers/media people have been doing for all these years... building up our region with no f*k ups... then to have a single promoter (that has recieved warnings in the past) to have one nasty/greedy mind to discredit the rest of the "middle east"
anyway, I told Dimitri to ONLY work with promoters that you trust in the region (and there are only a few I gave him a list of) unless they've paid the full 100,000 euro in advance... and the money ensures him...
all the best to Bahrain, PvD is still booked with us for November... will keep ya'll posted if something comes up
