Y is Armin @ Wadi Rum > Armin @ Forum de beyrouth ?

hmmm, i'm not sure how to start this... but here it goes.

best way i suppose is to try to logically analyze the reason that I (and others) went to such an event. What brings people to a DJ (namely trance) event? I mean it is quite obvious why people go to a Rock, or hiphop event for instance, cause such acts provide a "show" that u can't grasp by listening to a CD, or tape or whatnot at the comfort of your own home. When it comes to a DJ (trance especially) event, there is a limited amount of things that a DJ can do to really put up a "show"... i mean a DJ can wave up his hands a couple of times.. and raise them up everyonce in a while, maybe even tell the VJ to turn on and off the visual effects at certain times. But that don't really qualify for a "show".

So why do people leave the comforts of thier own homes, or favorite hangout spots to come to such an event? i mean Armin is my favorite trance DJ no doubt... but even though he is.. i'm pretty sure that i will do a better job at playing the songs that "I" like, and get the chance "to repeat" whatever tracks i feel like listening to over and over again.. I'm also sure that everyone could also say the same... So why did I, and others come to such an event?

It is for the Vibe, Ambience, crowd.... or namely the "RAVE" experience.

I'm not gonna dictate the definition of what qualifies to be called a "RAVE" and what don't. However, i will give my personal experience of being an avid global "RAVER" for close to a decade now.

For all its worth...

a "RAVE" is an experience, its a voyage, its a trip to some beautiful place in our conscious, state of mind.

Let me look at Wadi rum for example... it's quite a magical place... it's somewhere special that triggered the senses, even a professional party goer like armin's... beatuiful "exotic" setup, Small and selective "Dedicated" crowd, which gave that i belong to the "underground" typpa feeling. Oppertunities to get to know fellow "RAVERS".

Lets look at Forum Beyrouth..... your "Typical" bunker, or wherehouse that had only one "corporate" goal ......of filling its premises with as much ticket buyers as they could possibly do. I look around me, and see people spending half thier time pushing, or being pushed. An enormous amount of underage kids rolling on E, with no clue about the music or the surroundings. I try to close my eyes and get into the music, try to get into the mode of a "RAVE" experience, but i find zero of its components present.

We are blessed in the middle east to have some of the best views, historical sites, and exotic locations that u seldomly find anywhere else. I know Jordan has it, and i'm totally confident Lebanon is not lacking in that department either.

My wish is next time i go to an Armin event organized in Lebanon, i hear armin say " the coolest party i been to" like he was reffering to the Jordan one.

anyways, i hope i was able to communicate 10% of my point across, its way to early for my brain to function atm :P

I have faith in you Trancehitters though , that u can get your voices heard by promoters in the future. For the better sake of our "RAVE" culture in the MiddleEast.

OnE.

well i think u traveled to lebanon simply for the main reason that ur addcited to trance muisic and especially armin as u said before!
however, this issue is pretty clear , that a dj is not only about playing some tracks we have or we like! as u saw and witnessed this satruday, most of the tracks played by avb were special ones, some of them unreleased and some of them rare!(i mean by that not commercial ). and i can add that armin s interaction with the crowd and his self confidence and smile all over his face made this event quite amazing! i mean look how modest the guy is ,when he wore the TH t shirt or he put the LB sticker!
well hell yeah u can listen to ur own musicu like at ur home, but it s not the same feeling as ur in the middle of a gigantic place filled with clubbers enjoying the same music !!!!
the guy was and is outstanding! he really knows how to party!
PS: hip hop,RnBor rock events are always the same shit! there s a band with a guy singing the same song as he perforemd two days ago in another place !
trance for me is a different style , especially when it goes to ding, trance music offers a variety of tracks released every single day which helps a dj is supposed to play it!

lol

i knew raising such topic, and or comparision would stir up some emotions in the argument *cough* Johnny *cough*.

I wasn't trying to compare the Lebanese scene, vs. the Jordanian scene. I couldn't even if i wanted to, and certainly not by only attending one of each.

There was an enormous ratio of international people at the Rum event, and guess what it seemed to me (at least) that "most" of them were in fact Lebanese.

The tables could have easily been reversed. I was comparing an "incorporated" event, vs. " Somehow Underground" event. Rum and Forum de beyrouth were just mere "examples", and not a mean by itself.

It seemed to me that the only one that posted so far that even attempted to read what i said "objectively", was Genesis.

You are totally right Genesis, the Middleeast is going through the same cycle that happened in NorthAmerica and Europe. And i'm both grateful and impressed by the efforts of the people behind it. However, its doing so in "overdrive". And i guess i was just a tad too concerned this whole new trance fevor won't produce many "Rums", before it reaches a peak and starts fading out for other "flavors of the month".

Anyways, i appologize for being such a horrid writer, and/or if i caused any negative emotions to anyone by my post.

azeez ,

i wanted to go to the armin's event in beirut so bad , but i couldnt , next time inshala .. and i will be wearing a TH t-shirt for sure !!!!!

i know what you are trying to say , the overall atmosphere in wadi rum was different , because in Jordan , trance music , or EDM in general is not very big , people usually prefer to go to clubs or events which play pop music and top 20 , along with arabic ofcourse . so the people who will actually attend such an event , will have some sort of back ground regarding EDM . thats why in Jordan you wont get more than 1500 people attending such an event, and around 500 people will be from outside the country , in the case of wadi rum last summer .

However , in lebanon , people are more exposed to such music , or lets say people just go because its tiesto , or avb , so you will get 6000 people or 15000 for tiesto ... ! so this changes the overall atmosphere of the event ! but , this doesnt make it a bad event in any way , its just different in alot of ways , so in my opinion , you cant compare both locations , but you can compare the dj's performance .

hope this helps...

and by the way , the sound in wadi rum was excellent , i couldnt stand infront of the stage from the bass !!!!
