What would you listen to during a final?

Postby Fawzi » Wed Feb 04, 2009 12:00 pm

One of my professor allowed to me bring in my iPod and listen to music during a final.

I usually listen to music while studying, it helps me focus and I get the most productive when I listen to music.

I'm thinking of listening to Anjunabeats volume 6, disc 1 during that final.

Would you listen to music during a final? If yes, what?

I think it's a horrible idea to multitask specially with something as important as exams..
But to answer your question I would blast some of DJ Shah's stuff, anything with low kicks, chill sound.

Yeah but I'm used to it, I usually study with music, and not low music coming from my stereo next to me, music as in maximum volume from my iPod! It doesn't distract me, on the contrary, it helps me. Maybe it's just the fact that I got used to it.

Well normally people who have that sort of problem suffer from some sort of ADD as well. Do you find it hard to concentrate without music? Its well known that most people that are into EDM have some level of ADD problem with them, its not a generalization though.

Fawzi, there's nothing wrong in you being used to a certain study routine.
I'm not surprised that you need EDM in your ears to get you focused as much as I'm surprised that the vigilator has actually allowed you to have an ipod on your person let alone that he's ok with you playing it during a final exam.
As far as I know, no phones or media players are allowed in finals especially mp3 player where you could have certain lectures or tips recorded in audio.

I study with music on but I can't completely focus. I need my background noise, that's how I'm used to studying. But this is it - if I put on the music I'll start listening to music rather than being focused on the assignment at hand. I can't help but focus on one of them (books or music) at the expense of the other. I just can't help it.

So to avoid wasting time (and to still be able to study properly) I switch on the telly. I don't care about the telly but I need the background noise and it never distracts me enough to look up or listen to what's on. I just got used to it that way.

Want to make me flunk an exam? Put me in a library to study. It's just too quiet, there's no way I can focus.

Nick, who's the freak in your avatar and what's the story behind him?

^ Same here i turn on the tv and put it to medium volume. Actually it's only recently that i realized that i can study well with the tv on. Before that i used to turn on the music (Shah's chillout, some prog or some uplifting but definitely not vocal with lyrics, they distract me). And now i can say that i prefer the tv than the music.
Concerning the library in my 5 years of uni i think that i studied there no more than 6-7 times and everytime it lasted less than 1.5h  (just to review a bit before an exam). Last time was 2 years ago.
Complete silence is unbearable for me when i study.

iPod in class? DURING A FINAL?! Wow... there's no way i would pass a final with max volume music in my ears :? whatever style it is, i wouldn't be able to write/solve calmly.

BUT since you asked that question, there are only 2 genres and 2 albums i WOULD listen to during an exam. They are definitely DJ Shah's Another Day On The Terrace and ATB's CD2 of Trilogy (Chillout and Ambient). Uplifting isn't the exam's best friend :P

Kay, take it easy mate. You're all over the guy as if he peed in your coffee :P

Welcome to DJ.Malaria you may wonder why I called this group Dj Malaria.
Just like Malaria takes over a person's body when it hits them i want my music's originality to control the soul of whoever hears it in that sense my music is more powerful than Malaria, and I'm sure it will but in a positive way of
course.
