^ Same here i turn on the tv and put it to medium volume. Actually it's only recently that i realized that i can study well with the tv on. Before that i used to turn on the music (Shah's chillout, some prog or some uplifting but definitely not vocal with lyrics, they distract me). And now i can say that i prefer the tv than the music.
Concerning the library in my 5 years of uni i think that i studied there no more than 6-7 times and everytime it lasted less than 1.5h
(just to review a bit before an exam). Last time was 2 years ago.
Complete silence is unbearable for me when i study.
iPod in class? DURING A FINAL?! Wow... there's no way i would pass a final with max volume music in my ears
whatever style it is, i wouldn't be able to write/solve calmly.
BUT since you asked that question, there are only 2 genres and 2 albums i WOULD listen to during an exam. They are definitely DJ Shah's Another Day On The Terrace and ATB's CD2 of Trilogy (Chillout and Ambient). Uplifting isn't the exam's best friend
