This one goes out to Raneem!

I'm posting this as a response to an argument that me, Raneem, and Carl B had last summer about how DJs shouldn't label their CDs with the BPM and Music Key. Me and Carl B were for the idea, while Knafe Boy was against it.

Apparently Raneem thinks that it's not professional enough that a DJ would add such labels on the CD and that this shows how he/she relies more on numbers and not his/her ears.

Wlek even Marcus Schulz does so even though he's been in the industry for a while and used vinyls back then, which implies that he is very good at using his ears instead of relying on numbers and counters.

I love how Schulz labels his CDs the same exact way I did

i wouldnt say its not professional , but i dont do it ! Everyone has his own way of labeling his music .

I have a cd label / cover , that indicated whats on the cd, but no BPM , since you can change the BPM of the track to match your current track ....

i think a better way of labeling would be , house , tech house , prog , trance , tehcno etc .... because with soooo many track being released you might forget what that track is , and waste time listening to it , before playing it out !

LOL i love it how you guys get so much into tiny details and most of the times concerning funny issues..
ya Raneem did it occur to you that DJs tend to write BPM simply coz they cant remember the BPM of 10 000 tracks! and let's face it, if writing the number saves you from listening to several tracks while playing music and trying to choose which fits in better by trial and error then it is a SMART move and not something for sissies!..

Dio, how about understanding the crowd AND going for a harmonic set? It's possible

And sometimes DJs like me label keys to know where they stand during the set. It's not like I'm going to keymatch every single track that I will be playing.

Furthermore, if labelling BPMs on your cds - in your opinion - is for sissies, pussies, and ball-less DJs, then I supposed we could blame the companies like Pioneer for having their products point the BPM out for you upfront as soon as you slide the CD in

The reality is, like you said, there are NO RULES as long as the outcome is positive!

DJ-ing can be sometimes like bowling. You can play with a 15kg ball, while I play with 10kg ball. My ball is lighter, and the lighter the ball is, the more sissier you are (in Dio's opinion), though in the end what matters is how many pins you can knock out of the alley.
