... End up with probably REAL hardwares, using Live! or ProTools level softwares.

Here are the ups and downs of the DAW's i've tried out.

Fruity Loops: Brilliant sequencer. Learning with it is pretty useful, it has a lot of links with how to do what (connecting which to what). I loved the Mixer's interface and functionalities, though it hogs the system resources more than Johnny with his burger. Oh and the output quality isn't as great (rendering).

Reason: comes with tons of refills which one can use and abuse. Most of them imitate high quality tones. Reason has a very 'hardware' look to it, so it kinda helps you 'learn' your equipment. Downfall is its lack of VSTi support. When i tried wav handling, it wasn't that userfriendly, or maybe i just need more time on it. ReDrum is quite the 'sexy'.

Cubase (i use Nuendo): Very professional, very dull looking as well. Can't beat its quality though. I use Nuendo because I use a lot of Wav handling, and ... i've never found a problem with it. It's time-stretch is brilliant. What i'd do is ReWire Reason or FruityLoops to it, using their advantages. I simply hate Cubase/Nuendo's mixer interface, though it's believed to be damn good.

ProTools (comes in LE & HD): Most of the people use LE, but it has limited channels, while HD on the other hand ... is an orgasm in itself. Though, i've heard HD requires its own hardware. I've yet to fully work on it, and will be doing so, soon.

Live: Haven't got around it, but I heard its really good as well. As long as my DAW supports VSTi's,a proper wave handling & a high quality rendering, its good for me.
