Actually, my path started in the other way around. I did not start with trance and moved to house pretending to be more "mature". 7 years ago, I started listening to Rock and alternative music (Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park etcc..), then moved to Hip Hop and Rap (and Arabic), and believe me, I was a HipHop freak! Then I started listening to House music (and to be more specific, Tribal House (i.e. Antoine Clamaran, Laurent Wold, Lee Cabrera etc..), and started loving it more and more, which made me change the style I played. Then come Sylver, Lasgo, Milk Inc and all these Eurodance stuff to make me love the Trance elements! And here I am now..You know what I listen to and play. Am I getting retarded here?
Oh well..I still enjoy listening to a lot of Progressive & Melodic House tunes, but I still find them weak, and lacking the deep emotions. I find these in Trance music. Whether it is Progressive, Uplifting, Melodic, as long as it has melodies, it's gr8 to listen to. When it comes to Tech Trance, let me tell you that it's made for dancefloors! You can still dance on Uplifting and Progressive tracks, but Tech is just even harder, combining many elements and sounds together (won't go further from the subject).
After 3 yrs being deeply into Trance, I can tell you that my taste evolved! how? not by going back to House music, hell no, but by borrowing more elements for Trance music. Why my taste did not totally shift , or "evolved" as some of u say, because I still care about the melodies that I find mostly in trance music (I find some in House, but rarely the ones I'm looking for).
Some of you (i.e Saleem
) argue that Melodic Techno includes melodies too. But my argument is that they're very different from Trance melodies: they are dark, dry, and repetitive, with no energy. When I listened to one of your episodes while driving back from beirut, I was suffering honestly. These are NOT the melodies I'm looking for, since they are very different from the ones I listen to everyday. Anyway, it's all about taste, as some of you already mentioned. But the total shift in Taste is the thing that is questionable, and I really can't explain how this happens usually! Now Some of you might ask how can a shift from House to Trance exist and not the other way around?
My answer will be that House is a base of Trance, and Trance is just an added value of House music, with fresher melodies and elements (Trance got created after House, since House and Techno were the influences..SamEr and other old people here know better). So, it's a fact, and you can't argue about this issue.
I guess I'm retarded just like SamEr anyway..I love the cheesy and commercial repetitive Trance!
