As Dio said, i wish it was a bunch of "enthusiasts on forums" that are behind this problem. As Dio said, its usually started by a DJ/Producer who incorporates something "not very common" into his productions/sets (such as ElectroTrance as one great example by Dio), then labels his music style or sound as such. And then a flock of other DJs/Producers follow his footsteps ... then "WALA" (mind my french spelling) before u know it.. a whole new subgenre in EDM is born.
Might be because DJs/Producers of EDM music feel that they desperately need to find something to make them different from the other 10000000 DJs/Producers in EDM. Probably the DJs/Producers on these forums might be able to explain to you how hard it is, to make it as an EDM artist, better than i do... And the importance of being "Unique" in order to have a survival chance.
HOWEVER, thats a whole different subject by itself, that is open for alot of discussion/debate
