Dear friends,

The last couple of months have been the busiest ones of my entire life, but they were also the best. First of all I’d like to thank everybody who took the time to vote for the DJ MAG poll of 2005. Comparing the sounds of so many DJ’s is like comparing apples to oranges, but the fact is it puts a lot of positive attention to the small world of DJ’s and electronic music. I think the whole world of clubbing benefits from this. There’re so many great DJ’s out there so it feels really good to be voted nr.3 once again. Thank you.

Also, I’d like to thank everybody who came to Ahoy Rotterdam on November 12. This was the best night of my life as a DJ and I will never forget it. The atmosphere was already really special when I was playing back stage to warm up the crowd. I could hear the crowd when I played a certain track and it gave me shivers down my spine. This special atmosphere is unique to the Armin Only events I believe. All my family and friends were there, even some friends I hadn’t seen in years. When I came on stage it was like the place erupted. It felt so good after months and months of hard work from the whole team. I saw a lot of familiar faces from all over the world! We already started preparing for Armin Only in May this year and the last few weeks before the event were a bit stressfull. I’d like to thank all the artists, the whole Armada team and UDC for the extra hard work. We all pushed ourselves to the limit with the show, the lights, the stage, the visuals and the sound. But the party was great because of YOU! I’m now working with the DVD team to finish the DVD of Armin Only for the worldwide release in January 2006. So even if you missed the party, you can still be part of it in your own living room!

I just got home from a small tour in the Middle east and Asia. It surprised me once again how different the world looks when you actually go and see it. For example, I thought of Beirut as a place with a lot of violence because of the things you hear in the news. Boy was I wrong. The media can really give you a misplaced view of the world. When I arrived at the venue there were 4000 people cheering my name. And I had never been there before!! It was a fantastic party and a suburb production and I didn’t want to stop playing!! The next day we went to a cafe in Beirut to eat something and the people in the cafe were singing all my songs and still dancing.

Something like this also happened in Asia when I came to Shanghai and Beijing. It’s strange but very cool when you come to a new place for the first time and people know all your music and have all your cd’s. The people started clapping their hands when I entered the pressroom! Also, I’m so stunned by the amount of people that listen to ASOT every week, all over the world. Some people were carrying iPods with ALL episodes and keep listening to them non-stop! People asked me to sign the back of their iPods. Most of the clubbers I met were really up to date with the latest trance music thanks to the internet.

I’d like to take the opportunity to ask you to go and vote for your favorite 5 trance tracks of 2005 at MailScanner has detected a possible fraud attempt from "www.armadamusic.nl" claiming to be www.arminvanbuuren.net. (thanks to Peter Kruit who checks the votes and creates the site every year) We will broadcast the ASOT top 20 of 2005 right before christmas. I think it has been an amazing year for trance with a lot of extremely high quality productions. When I look at my recordbox these days, I simply have too much new records I want to play!

So, in honour of 2005 I will do another ASOT YEARMIX of 2005
