Before I get to my question/s lets take a look at my setup.
I have for my studio setup:
A Mac Pro
Digidesign Digi 003 Factory LE FireWire Music Production System
M-Audio Axiom 25 Keyboard MIDI Controller
and a pair of M-Audio Studiophile AV40 Desktop Speakers
I'm now ready to add to my arsenal 2 CD Turntables, an effects processor and a mixer. This setup will be comprised of:
2 Pioneer CDJ1000 MK3s
1 Pioneer EFX1000
and a Numark DXM06 2-Channel Digital Mixer with Digital FX
Now some background on me. I am an electronic music nut! Psytrance events are my particular poison and I attend them whenever possible. I make my living as a network engineer and spend most of my spare time doing high-end video editing as well as graphic design. On top of everthing else I have started learning the ins and outs of computer-based music, mostly in Reason 3 and only recently expanded to the Digi 003 and Pro Tools LE. It has been quite a journey and now I'm ready to expand my horizons yet again. I one day hope to have a pair of DVJ1000s along with a Edirol V4 mixer... Keywords being "one day". For now I'm going with a pair of CDJ1000 mk3s and the above mentioned hardware.
My dilemma is this. I don't have the slightest on how I would manage to hookup my EFX1000 to the 2 CDJs with only the DXM06. Would that even work?
If the answer is no, would it be possible using the Digi 003 as my mixer?
I really don't know. If the Digi 003 could be used that would be great for the studio, but what about when want to spin at the club? My CDJ1000s, EFX1000 and DXM06 will be mobile but I wasn't planning on lugging the Digi 003 along too.
Am I going to need to look into getting another mixer? If so what would you recommend I select from? My overall goal is to keep from having to buy anything I'm not going to need and it would be nice if I could keep the price down. Including the Axiom 25, and the Digi 003 once I purchase the CDJ1000s, EFX1000 and DXM06 I'll have a little over $6,000 invested in this venture.
I'm getting the DXM06 for roughly $250 Shipped. If I don't end up getting it, I'm willing to spend up to $550 maybe $600 if its something amazing. Quality is somewhat of an issue, nothing less than the DXM06 for sure!
So there it is... I know its a lot to drop for a first post, but I think this forum can handle it. By the by, I'm coming to you straight out of Austin Texas. If anyone's in or ever passing through the ATX give me a shout, I would love to mix it up!
EDIT: If anyone was wondering, I posted the pics for simplicity's sake. Once I get my tables, I'll post some studio pics. It will be hard seeing as the only light in the room is the glow from the equipment and the walls lite up by the blacklights. The walls are covered in tie-dye material. In certain "states of reality" it can sometimes be hard to find your way out... A video explanation is in order. I'll try to have that up when I get a chance.
