As a DJ, what's your sticking point?

As DJs, we tend to have our sticking points. i.e. Flaws, imperfections...etc. And I'm sure that I speak for most DJs out there when I say each one of us stands out in a way or another. However, at the end of the day, there is at least one thing that screws your sets up, or mood, or whatever.

My very own sticking points are:

1) I'm extremely picky
2) I build my sets on a certain energy flow that has to be continuous. It cannot go down and up. It starts from way below and gradually, yet quickly, builds up.
3) Beatmixing to me is an option. I'm all for harmonic mixing.

The reasons these 3 points disrupt my sets from time to time is because:

1) If I'm picky, my track selection is narrowed down so much that I can't freestyle my tracklists in most of my sets. And that would be a disadvantage to me if I play out in a club or party.
2) If I can't find that flow of energy that I'm looking for, then my tracklist stops at one point. This happens 80% of the time when I'm preparing a sweet mix.
3) Beatmixing bores me unless both tracks ooze groove. Harmonic mixing is a necessity in my mixes.

So what are yours?

Oh and if you're the kind of DJ that would think "shit, if I give these guys my "secrets" and "weaknesses", they'll figure me out and I'll be done!" then I say to you "FUCK YOU!" We're here to discuss, not analyse every single aspect of your DJ skills.

lol .... nice topic ....

my problem is ... i can never plan a set , never ... all i do , is just think about the opening track , since it has to be an intro .. i cant mix out the last track from the Dj before me ... i need to have an intro !!

so , during the set , i always think about what to play next , depending on the crowd ... so it takes alot of time to look at the tracks in my cd case ...

i love beatmatching ... and i think it makes a big difference to the educated clubber , so i think alot about when to mix in the next track , and how to bring it about ...

i cant play short sets , or i would rather play 2 hours plus , because i tend to play alot of styles in my sets ... so usually short sets dont give me a fair judgement !!

thats all i can think of right now ...

oh .. and i dont take requests very well ... if a dj isnt playing your style or the track you want , its because he donest want to !!! respect that , and bring your ipod next time !!

very nice topic for djs and clubbers. makes djs learn from each other and clubbers become more educated in a sense.

I don't do harmonic mixing in live sets, I guess that's my sticking point... other than that I'm just godlike.

1)No requests

2)If I feel the crowd dropped a notch energy-wise I throw a beatport top 10 track then get back on track

3)I play whatever I feel like playing

4)I can't play without booze around me
