PsyTrance has evolved from a sub-genre of Trance to what can perhaps be considered a genre by its own right, since it now counts a total of sub-genres: Ambient, Progg, Morning, FullOn, Dark, Trippy, and Goa (correct me if I'm mistaken Gen), so that's as many sub-genres as Trance itself counts! Most psy produced in the past and today is non-melodic, but that's most and not all. Now most hardcore psy listeners favor this "most psy" that is non-melodic and disfavor other sub-genres of Trance partly because these other sub-genres are too melodic for them, while the others favor psy that has not-so-minimal melodies in it, and these tend to consider the other Trance sub-genres as their sound since they dig melodies; Gen (and most psy listeners) is from the first group, Sam and I are from the second - that's all there is to it.
As for Heliopolis, well Filteria may not have Goa beats as praise-worthy as those of Astral Projection or Man With No Name, but he does produce melodies as praise-worthy as those of Etnica and Pleiadians. At least he's attempting to deliver something different, to revive the old Goa sound. Perhaps he's more melodic than he should be, but (from my limited knowledge in this particular sub-genre) he is the only one working to resurrect the explicit melodies that used to be found in the classic Goa sound, and this was the sound that got me into PsyTrance way back during the stone age which is why I got nostalgic over Filteria's two albums. They're different, and when a good deal (but not all) of today's psy is imitation-based and lacking innovation, Filteria is a breath of fresh air.
