Progression - In Deep Sounds / Sands Of Time

A new release from the Dutch duo Progression, which consists Daniel Wanrooy and Robin van der Wiel. These guys have done more work under the name Catfish and, more important, the Odyssee alias which is currently signed to Black Hole Recordings. Also they release stuff on Misja Helsloot's Gesture label and a UK release on Lost Language is ready for release soon. This tune will be on the Fundamental label! This is a release with a sad edge, as it's dedicated to a recently deceased friend from the guys.
In Deep Sounds
A nice ambient start guides us through the first minute of this track. It's a lovely start and sets the mood right for this trancer. Then bassline and kicks gently fade in kicking the track off for the build up. The kicks are suppported by minimal, almost acid sounding effects giving a darker feel to the tune. Slowly a nice melody flows and fades gently to the surface of the track. The breakdown kicks in and features a heavenly eastern voice. Absolutely spinechilling moment, before the melody takes over, enhancing the dreamy experience. The mild kick and bassline carry us to the rest of the track, with the melody varying and increasing in power now and then. A very cool effort in merging uplifting and dreamy sounds!
Sands Of Time
This tune is well-appreciated by DJ Ton TB, who put it in his favourite tracks list of the moment. Not a real surprise, cause Ton TB's older work is quite similar to this one. A punchy bass guides us through the first minutes, flavoured with techy, stabby effects. Little melodies are playing around, but in the trancy breakdown a longstretched mainlead takes care of the hands in the air feel. Pretty nice trancer.
Conclusion
In Deep Sounds is my absolute favourite on this release, which is one of the more refreshing one's so far this year. Sands Of Time is somewhat more punchy and will probably bounce more on your dancefloor. Recommended!
