Tilt are past masters of the dance world, with a string of hugely successful singles earning them a long standing place in the history of the progressive music scene. Early tracks such as 'I Dream' and 'Rendezvous' are still highly regarded today, and their cover of the Robert Miles classic 'Children' thrust them well truly into the spotlight upon it's release.
Originally consisting of Mick Parks, Mick Wilson and John Graham before his departure to concentrate on his solo career, Tilt became one of the leading acts of the mid and late 90s, and an artist album has been eagerly anticipated for some time. 'Explorer' is a culmination of a journey through the past few years, as Parks and Wilson venture in a new melodic song driven direction along with new member Andy Moor, but the ambient soundscapes and dancefloor epics that Tilt are so well known for also feature.
From the cauldron-deep hypnotica of opener and recent single ‘The World Doesn’t Know’, to the rumblings of sleaze-houser 'Electronic Poledancer' and the Curve-esque vocal of 'Control Me', the album is a veritable melting pot of sounds and influences. 'New Day' highlights a more bubbly pop-friendly side of Tilt, whilst 'Explorer' is an excursion into the wilderness of the downtempo realm, with vocalist Lianne Brookson's versatility shining through on each, following on from her work with such artists as Datar and Sander Kleinenberg.
'Tokyo Breaks' is a deceptively simple techno-styled track with a similarity in style to that of seminal electro artists Kraftwerk, whilst 'Twelve' is an eastern inspired epic that has already become another major track on the club circuit. The rest of the album brings all these elements together to form one cohesive album that is both an exploration of the mind and within sound, beginning a new chapter in the career of the this legendary production outfit.
