Psycatron - 7th Morning / 7th Night

Psycatron is the live project for Irish DJ and producer Paul Hamill, and Phil Johnston. They create deep, dark and twisted beats, which have found their way to the decks of Deep Dish, Steve Lawler, King Unique, Hernan Cattaneo and lots more. Between them, they’ve released tracks on majors such as Alternative Route, Maelstrom, Shine and Yoshitoshi. Let’s see if the lads can deliver yet again, this time on Sander Kleinenberg’s imprint, Little Mountain Recordings.

7th Morning begins it’s journey with chunky bongo’s laying on top of a solid kickdrum. A grooved out bassline is introduced at the one minute mark together with chasing hihats and hypnotizing percussions. Almost halfway through the track, filtered, almost chanting like, vocals are added to add more depth as the melody is brought to life. The breakdown is a beautifully crafted musical piece with its warm synth chords and emotive pads, before it all detonates in a frenzy of grooves, percussions and harmonies. Drop this at peaktime and observe the ladies dance their tails off. Without a doubt one of LMR’s finest releases to date.

On the flip we find 7th Night, which is a less housey and groovy affair. Chunky percussions are replaced by eerie effects, a bubbly electro’esque bassline and techy elements. This is pure, unadulterated insanity for the clubs with its lively drive and soaring synth stabs. Very very cool.

The press release says “Psycatron are currently one of the hottest live acts on the Irish scene, and with some great international releases on the cards, it’s only a matter of time before the rest of the world catch on the sound of Psycatron”. I couldn’t agree more, this is an essential record for both house, tech and prog DJs. Two thumbs up!

Style: Progressive (lost btw house and trance)
