Perfecto Presents: Seb Fontaine - Type 01
Posted: Mon Nov 01, 2004 5:32 pmDoes Seb Fontaine's dropping of the "proto" and getting right to the "type" mean we're in for mass-produced blandness? Hardly, Perfecto Presents: Type 01 is as exciting as any mix the progressive DJ has put his name to in the past, just less showy and more subject to quirky whims. Disc one goes from the party anthem "Tweakin" -- albeit in its smooth Saeed mix -- to the looped hypnosis of Zoot Woman's "Grey Day" without a hitch. A couple of rance numbers with old disco tricks end the disc before moving on to the clicking loops of Sebastian Ingrosso's "Get It Back"; probably one of the most grabbing set starters a DJ could ever ask for. Seb Fontaine lays a Harry "Choo Choo" Romero a cappella over the track and follows its robotic tech with the organic and wailing "Arabian Nights." A tricky move, and Seb Fontaine makes it work, but with such a wide variety of tunes and temperaments on Perfecto Presents: Type 01, you're bound to find something too weird or not weird enough. Seb Fontaine and deep risk-taking are new friends so give him an album to work out all the kinks. Another muscular floor-filler from Seb Fontaine would have been same old, same old by now. Perfecto Presents: Type 01 displays artistic evolution and the try this, try that attitude that comes with it.
