AnjunaDigital’s first “release” brings new Anjunabeats residents Smith & Pledger’s most recent production ‘Forever’ with Aspekt and Mark Norman mixes. The latter has already swept through clubland wherever Armin van Buuren and Tiësto have played, leaving a trace of a growing in-demand track. Even thou the new and wider release schedule that comes with the new label, Anjunabeats prove their experience through a strong stable as Oli Smith delivers brand new Aspekt mixes, adding even more powder to the already loaded package.
If the dark and hard atmosphere of the Mark Norman mixes has haunted dance floors around the world the Aspekt mixes of ‘Forever’ certenally will brighten up the impression. Even thou the perhaps most obvious Anjunabeats mix would have been melodic right up your alley, they’ve chosen to take on the currently very popular melodic and progressive influenced style. With the by now familiar blip-blop bell sounding elements arranged superbly, the Aspekt Dub slowly takes you through an impressive journey of perfectly produced music. Beautiful is simply not strong enough as you try to put words on the slow mix that stretches over more than eight and a half minute of sublime beats, sweeping strings and beaituful melodies.
Oli Smith’s vocal mix is the mirror reflection of the Dub, except for the obvious ingredience of female vocals. Even thou the lyrics have no traces of chart greed what so ever, the vocals just doesn’t do the track many favours. Sure, the it fills its purposes, but the elegant dub mix is the last track standing on this release.
Could it be a sudden strike of symbolism that a label of a new era’s first release is of the in recent rising sound of melodic and progressive trance. The Aspekt Dub is a close-to-perfect track for an impressive set of modern time. Be sure to keep up with both Anjunabeats and AnjunaDigital this year, it looks as if they know what evolution means; both in sound and in bussines.
