Mr. Fleming returns with his 5th installment to the Euphoria family and his second under Ministry of Sound. This is the first of several other releases for the Brit lined-up for this year including an artist album due in May. So anybody enjoying this release, will be on a lookout for a great slacker coming your way in May.
The expectation was high. The outcome was expected. The releases is out of this world.
CD1 kicks with an ambient atmospheric start over the intro and Nasser's release. A great down-tempo start as he normally starts his sets. He's worked with Digital Blonde on composing 6 intros and outros for the compilation and they've fallen right in place. Soon enough John notches it up with the beautifully drummy Perfect Stranger. By the mid of the CD, we would have listened to atmospheric beauties from RPO, Vibrasphere, and Ticon. But it's a whole different deal when he drops Anton Chernikov's stunner from last year. Kerudu is a brilliant hard-edged progressive psy. Slamming at 135 bpm, it's hard to accept that can still be labelled as ''progressive'' but given the elevation and the other levels that the compilation takes, Kerudu is certainly a progressive cracker. Paulina Cewe drops afterwards with a brilliant hard tough-to-top release from her last year, Incipit. That is a tune you can not help but LOVE. Driving, energetic, and an absolute slammer! I've looped this tune relentlessly last year and there's more to come. This single was clearly one of my personal favorite singles last year. She's a producer to look out for - far more great stuff will be getting out from this Tribal Techno/Progressive Psy genius!
Human Blue and Astral Projection are next. It's important to note that The One has never been played out before John featured it on his October Global Trance Grooves episodes. From Astral Projection's long-coming album: The One is a sublime Astral Projection trademark release! Can't wait for the full version on their 10th album due sometime later this year. Followed by the flawless Zen Mechanics remix of The Light then Liquid Soul, the set is getting better and better only for John to pull up ONE HELL OF A POUNDER; Ovnimoon - Eight K Miles
This tune is featured from Ovnimoon's latest album; Family of Light and it's one heck of sledgehammer!! Brilliant, absolutely brilliant!
CD2 picks up right on the trail. Suntree (my newest discovery in the world of psy) is featured with a town-tempo psy tune and followed up by the amazing Sub6 - Down 'n Out, an absolute gem that was featured on GTG as well as other releases but has deserved to make it on to this CD. Earthling takes over, followed by U-Recken, then a rather very impressing 00.db. Run offers a wicked bassline, with a very skillful breakdown and an atmospheric build-up and blows along nicely up till the end. Mickey Noise (one half of Wizzy Noise) leaves his print with Maya. What comes next is out of this world. Mad Maxx is one half of Sirius Isness and he's teamed up with Bionix for a savaging 140+ BPM bomb! The Old Times is a perfect tune in every conceivable way! The set then ends with Astral Projection's remix of THAT classic: Push - Strange World - exquisite!
The third CD rips it off at the highest level. This is the hardest I've ever heard John play on a CD. Having said that, he has played harder live but for a CD, this is some awesome stuff! The third disk ranges from 135 bpm and reaches the 145 bpm heights. But putting the beat rate aside, this disk reaches levels of ingenuity from a number of artists that have been around for a while as well as those that are new to the scene. It's dark, serious, and edgey featuring stuff from Exotik, a back-to-form X-Noise, the constantly brilliant Xerox & Illumination as well as Krunch, the Serbian genius Prosper, the incredibly talented Insomnia and of course; Astrix. CD3 will smply blow you off!
This is John's (and this might be an understatement) 18th compilation. If anything, he may have released more than that of which my memory can't help me in recalling right now. If there's one thing in common between all those, is that this man gets better and better. With every release, the common concept is that he just can't get better. There has been a belief that he has reached his peak and will begin a decline like almost every legend has done. Not Fleming though.
This is a release that will blow you away. This is no acid-blaring monotonous stoned hippie psytrance. This is powerful energetic hand-picked relentless awesomeness chosen and mixed by the man himself.
This is for the casual trancer, the hardcore psy head, and the ones that are simply curious or confused with their EDM.
This is John 00 Fleming on a CD.
This is a legend on a CD.
And you can never, and I mean never, go wrong with Mr. J00F!
Kiss your brains goodbye; this is easily the compilation of 2009. 10/10 is not good enough for it.
