First released in promo at the tail end of 2004, Adam White’s Ballerina lands in three new guises just in time for some winter destruction.
Moving from its first home, Darey Products, to Adam’s new imprint, Emalodic, this haunting, evocative piece of rejigged trance was never meant for full release though constant demand has overturned that. Based on Martin Grech’s Open Heart Zoo, which some may remember featured in an ad for Lexus, this package comes in three distinct shades.
The 2007 remix is well known now across clubland and needs little introduction here. The ethereal vocals contrast with the soaring but understated riff and punchy stabs as the track builds into an electro tinged monster. This track is guaranteed to get the laziest of floors moving.
The Nat Monday remix takes the track back in the direction of trance. It’s a broodier affair though stripped of the vocal sample and seemed to be missing an edge to the track. Even though I found it more repetitive than interesting I will certainly fit well in an earlier set.
Back to the package and System K, new to Emalodic, completes the release and returns the sound to the bleeps and squeaks of house. I really liked this reworking though, it keeps the sample and uplifting nature - loving the filtered riff after the break - it’s got that little bit of grit to the rest of the song.
