Label manager, producer and dance floor-igniting dance DJ, Preach has achieved international fame in a young but eventful career. With a string of acclaimed releases for Black Hole, InCharge, Intec, Terminal M or his own Relic Recordings, Preach is poised to release his first full-length artist album in 2007 “Transatlantic” supported by no other but DJ Tïesto’s, one of the most successful disc jockey, producer, label manager and even a restaurant chain owner.
Born Philippe Babin and raised in Quebec, Canada, Preach cut his teeth in Montreal and Quebec City’s dance scenes DJing regularly at large clubs such as Sona and Aria, or releasing for local labels Relentless, Ascend and Edit or international ones such as MB Elektronics, Symbolism and Iturnem . Drawing the attention of global dance stars such as Tïesto, Carl Cox, Paul Van Dyk or Marco V, Preach followed his heart and crossed the Atlantic Ocean to Breclav, Czech Republic, in early 2005.
Transatlantic is a commentary on Preach’s personal life, and the translation of his dreams and travels around the oceans into music, while discovering new places and admiring unexplored cultures. This 1.5 year project, sees him working with live musicians and vocalists –among them Saskia Lie-Atjam, famed for her work with Ferry Corsten, had caught the eyes of the infamous DJ and Artiste Tïesto and his sub-label F.B.I. which witnessed the release of two acclaimed EPs “Broken Inside” and “Transatlantic” paving the way for the album debut.
Preach’s demand as a DJ continues to soar as 2007 sees him performing at London’s Antiworld festival, Madrid’s infamous Code Summer Festival, Toronto’s WEMF, Montreal’s epic Bal En Blanc, or on Marco V’s stage at Amsterdam’s Dance Valley Festival, while his 2007/8 Transatlantic tour will take his passionate, primal message from Africa to Asia, the Middle East, South America and beyond!
No doubt Preach is one of the rising names of EDM for the last couple of years and it was a matter of time before we got to witness an artist album for this young talent as an additional affirmation of his status as one of the acclaimed DJs/Producers..
Fortunately my friend Mazen happen to be the manager of DJ Preach and he provided me with the promo album in order to check it out myself. I got to say that when I first had all the tracks ready to be played I had no idea what to expect. For sure i've heard sets for DJ Preach and some remixes but an artist album always happen to include more personality than any mix or remix, it's a spotlight to any producers state of mind and this time the focus was on Preach!
The album starts off in a very MIKE/PUSH progressive style, something that ultimately drawn a big smile on my face without helping it; for the first couple of tracks could be easily labeled as a tribute to one of the great sounds of EDM! just the perfect start for an artist album!!
the next couple of tracks surprisingly take the notch down a bit with 2 vocal tracks full of emotions, melodies and slower beats.. easy listening tracks that could play a big role in helping marketing this album when released.
after the 4th track, things get back hard and deep this time more of a Marco V style as It's A Crime 2007 hits back with brute force!! one of the highlights of this album.
track 5 continue in the same pace with some serious progressive madness with a spacy feeling and acid sounds in an Airwavish style of tracks! just another diverse and surprising production.
for track 6 and 7 the theme is the same with a more techy edge and a blend of MIKE and Marco V at the same time delivering 2 beautiful tracks!
as if there wasnt enough surprises on this album we get to reach track 9 where we are faced with a somehow rockish progressive track containing some male vocals (of Ray Elmington), some beautiful electrical guitar sound and an overall touch of roughness in the production that continues toward track 10 with yet another vocal track delivered by the voice of Ali!
time for the title-track of the album. A blend of progressive and tech trance with additional roughness in the sound and power in the bassline! something that might give us an idea of Preach's personal favourite sound.
getting closer to the end of the album, we reach the last vocal track, an emotional techy production with a very groovy bassline that i personally wish to get a Dubbed version as it could definitely be a floor filler on any dancefloor!
Burning House is the final track on this album, dark, deep, rough, full of acid and dry as hell! this is the closing track and with it Preach drops one of the craziest productions on this album! a kinda retro sound that works well both at home and on the dancefloor!!
whether Preach was still looking for his ultimate sound or the album was a proof of his diverse capabilities as a producer, this album is one of the upcoming releases to look for with a simple conclusion, if you like EDM then you'll definitely like something in this album! dont do the mistake of skipping this album, it surely deserves to be checked!!
