Vadim Soloveiv - Dash

A six-mix outing from relative newcomer Vadim Soloviev, on UK-formed and now Australian-based label Binary Finary Recordings.
The Original begins with a lovely kick, at almost a leisurely pace while the bassline comes up adding percussion as it goes. The high bassline isn’t over elaborate, but a nice arpeggiating pattern which had my attention. The lower bassline fills up nicely in a Tyas-esque fashion, though with less drive but no less authority. Uplifting chord changes in the bassline come as soon as 1:30, followed by lovely warm pads/strings before dropping down nicely into a down section - and then into the breakdown at 3 mins. At this point the lead is gently introduced, a lead sound which reminded me of both Daniel Kandi’s “Nova” and Jurgen Vries “The Theme” – though gentler and pleasant on the ear. The melody is simple, but paired with the nice chord climbs it has a great overall structure and feel – and also worth mentioning that the production is very good. Not a peaktime bigroom Trancer, but worthy of any Trance set.
The progressive mix has a tougher kick and percussion, some nice synthy pieces and a raspier bassline which sidechains beautifully along with the strings - to form another well produced track. This one is all about the uplifting feel factor, and one to gently sit back and enjoy. Two solid mixes, with the Original just pinching it between these two for me.
The Probspot mix has a House/Electro edge with nice crisp, clean percussion. A slow burner, with the Original lead harmonising after the breakdown which I thought was a nice touch.
Adrian M’s mix picks up the pace, a very different style bassline which I liked. I wasn’t overly keen with the lead sound and buildup in the breakdown here, I just didn’t think this complimented the unique bassline and impact was missing upon kicking back in.
The two Binary Finary mixes, whilst also nicely enough constructed were a little plain in terms of bassline and percussion. These may appeal to some, but for me the first four mixes give the best in this release.
