The guru is back with yet another cracker and Dion will have to excuse me
this time with my reviewing this beauty.
An aimless tingling sensation of guilt crawls upon me when putting a
release from John as a return to the scene as though the man has been
napping away. Mistaken I am.
You thought Mehadeva's Remix was a slacker?
You thought Attention was the bollocks?
Then you probably haven't given a listen to this pack of goodies yet.
After the inevitable clash with Wizzy Noise that bestowed light on the gem
Endelexia, John 00 Fleming releases (in the space of less than a month)
the Rasa Lila EP on his undergound label: JOOF Recordings
The JOOF Recordings releases are mainly a whole pack of remixes.
When you buy a JOOF Recordings release, you know that you're not
getting a single tune: your getting a number of tunes that cover most
tastes from the proggy, to the psychedelic, or down to the tribal,
breakbeat, or even the chill out.
This time is no difference.
And when record's boss name J00F is all over the release: it definitly is not
different.
01- Rasa Lila (part I): A true reflection of the J00F psy-influenced sound.
The unmistakable pioneering sound sledges through the tune from a
proggy start, to drift along nicely towards the end of the tune with a more
psychedelic twist. Any need to mention a yet better psy part? - The Indian
prayer throughout the tune simply nails the tune to the back of your head.
02- Rasa Lila (Part II): A tribal remake to expose the darker side of J00F's
sound is the sole purpose of the tune. A lovely tune for a set's build-up or
finish off.
03- Rasa Lila (Siberian Son Remix): A minimally progressive remix that
would fit in the early stages of a progressive set way before the set
kicks off. The vocals and a bit of the main melody of the original mix adds
some colour to the tune although it doesn't really fit my taste.
04- Rasa Lila (Incolumis Remix): A sleezy housey start that gets backed
up with the vocals and the melody in a later stage to turn out a nicely built
dark progressive tune, though minimal at some points of the tune.
05- Rasa Lila (Anton Chernikov): The man behind Evil Spice is back with
a remake for Rasa Lila. Good choice that was for a return! A superbly
pumping remix that never failed to impressed me.
06- Rasa Lila (John C Remix): John C is a new name for me in terms of
production. Who is John C? I only know that he's a member in the J00F
web forum. Appart from that, I don't care and I don't want to know
because what he did with Rasa Lila is an absolute stunner. From a proggy
build up, to a melodic trippy break down to then lift the tune up and throw
in your ears a staggering proggy cracker is something to stand at indeed.
An absolutely brilliant remix!
07- Rasa Lila (Jay Selway Remix): The expected remix from Selway is a
hammering full-on slacker featuring a monstrous build-up towards the mid
way of the tune. Good stuff from Selway again!
