OK I just got the chance to listen to
Tiesto-The_Parade_Of_The_Athletes
so here's what I think:
I'm not a fan of compilations/livesets myself; I'm more of a single track person. But this one was surely worth checking out: the opening ceremony of the olympics by the world's #1 DJ who has been quite controversial lately. Well there's no need in going on and on about the mixing skills. Trackselection was restricted to Tiesto's productions only: something some people favored while others were furious at. Well here's what I thought about it, one track at a time:
1. Heroes
Decent melody, but in desperate need of a 4/4 beat; I'm expecting a "Magikal Remake".
2. Breda 8pm (DJ Montana Edit)
Montana's version of Dallas 4PM - the original was too housey for my ears, this one is a bit harder, but still too housey for my ears.
3. Ancient History
I just loved the flute in this one! The rest is mediocre.
4. Traffic
"Hate at first sight". I hated it when I first heard it, and my opinion hasn't changed since then. IMO one of Tiesto's poorest productions.
5. Euphoria
Not bad, not bad at all.
6. Athena
Now this track is my personal climax of the set. It is a trancy remake of Tomasso Albinoni's Adagio. Yes, just like Samuel Barber's Adagio was remixed by Ferry Corsten and then by Tiesto himself, Tomasso Albinoni's Adagio just got a trancy remix by Tiesto too. Good stuff, best track on the set IMO, I can't wait til this baby gets a release. I wouldn't say it's better than Barber's Adagio, because I only gave it one listen so far, but it's very different in style, more melodic and less techy. I am very fond of both classical masterpieces and it's good to see that they are both given a trancy treat.
7. Olympic Flame
Not bad as well.
8. Lethal Industry
It would be really stupid to comment here
9. Coming Home
Not bad...
10. Adagio For Strings
Hello? One of the best 2004 releases?
11. Victorious
Very cheerful.
12. Forever Today
Yup, Just Be's opener, the one and only. Me likie!
So here you go. Athena is what made it all worthwhile to me. Other than that, I'm not too impressed.
