Armin van Buuren already finished the orginal version from his track Blue Fear in the year 1995 when he was only 18 years old. The release from this track came 2 years later in 1997 with remixes from the Trouser Enthusiasts and also Armin’s original version. In those days, the track got massive support from the likes of Sasha, Judge Jules, and John Digweed. In 2003, Armin made an updated version from Blue Fear which was released on his solo album 76. This month, the 2004 version of Blue Fear was released on a nice limited one-sided blue promo vinyl. There’s also going to be another release including a stunning remix from the boys from Solid Globe!
The new version is almost 10 minutes long, instead of the version on 76, which is 7:30 minutes long. The intro of Blue Fear 2004 is filled with a dark, mysterious sound which is followed by some short piano notes a few seconds later. After one minute, it’s time for the build-up. First, the drum kicks in and there’s also a simple (but nice) bassline and some hi-hat sounds. Two minutes later you will hear some stringsounds and in the background you can already hear a little bit from the famous vibrating main melody, which Armin also used in the original version. At 4:30, the track really starts with everything mixed together. When you listen to this part you really feel the energy and it’s hard to sit still in your chair while writing a review!
The original version from Blue Fear is one of those famous Trance classics. I’m glad that Armin didn’t made a lot of huge changes in the leadsound and in the main melody. Armin’s new version is a nice up-to-date version and I’m sure that it will work on the dancefloor very well!
