Fire & Ice were one of the most succesfull acts from the Bonzai Records trance department. The project, by Airwave and DJ Fire, started to get international attention in the late nineties with some stunning tracks. Every track was on the Tiesto playlist and you will find some productions on the Magik CDs. One of the key qualities of Fire & Ice was that they could create bombastic melodies with an underground feel. Sadly, all good things come to an end.. or do they? Some years ago the Fire & Ice project was declared dead and DJ Fire and Airwave started to focus on different projects. Now the duo is back with their track Tour de Trance. Backing remixes come from DJ Fire and Manuel le Saux.
Original Mix
The mix that will appeal to most of you is the Original Mix, which defines “hands in the air” with its killer melody line and euphoric sounds. The first minutes are building up very nicely with some nice effects and melodies, building up to a crazy 1.5 minute breakdown unleashing a fantastic melody to the crowd. There’s nothing exceptional or original to the track, but it’s so well executed that it will bring a smile to your face when you hear it. Class A!
DJ Fire Remix
Jurgen Leyers made his own mix under his DJ Fire alias. We know DJ Fire for his deep and haunting progressive trance inspired releases as well as his more recent electrance inspired tracks. He strips the energy from the original and transforms the track in a laidback trancer with some very faint electro influences. But this one leaves something to be desired. It could have been way more darker which would make the production a lot more interesting.
Manuel le Saux Remix
This remix is the worst of the three tracks on this EP. The production just doesn’t feel solid, the kick is very annoying and the melody is kinda ruined due to the lack of balance between the elements between the tracks. It’s always difficult to remix a stunning original track and this remix just doesn’t add up to the expectations.
