I dont think so.
They might only write the melody by notes, but not the other parts. maybe not at all!

if PIANO is used they use the notes but sometimes no because not all of them play piano using notes, like me when i play on the keyboard i do not write the notes i just play and listen " by ear"
the same goes to Violin and or any other Note based instrument.

Trance is based on melody, if ur playing that melody on a keyboard, u can play ur melody based on notes u wrote or u can just play it directly.
But now a days they r virtual keyboard and patterns builders so u dont even need to know the rules of the notes and how it works but u still can do stuning melodys.

i understand system. I play by ear as well. But u see...some songs are better if u follow scales. But since melody's dont take up more than lets say 5 notes, ... i guess scales aren't necessary. As long as it sounds FUCKING GOOD eh?
