I agree with you about Reason...it's a kick ass software...what I really love about reason and still do, is the way I can use loads of compressors and effects without affecting my CPU... like I used to put an equalizer and a compressor on every sample...to tweak the frequency I want...beside that and specially in Reason 3.0, the mastering suite, which really change the quality of your mix by one button...I never had a crash when I rewired Nuendo to reason, cause I use the version 3.2 from Nuendo, 3.0 and 3.1 they used to crash and they fixed this bug in 3.2....but what pissing me off in rewiring them, that I lose one second from my sequencer...like I cannot hear the first kick when I play, unless i move the whole mix one second front...which will change the look of my sequencer to work on Bars...and I tried everything in the book and couldn't solve it...
After I discovered Spectrasonics Stylus Rmx, and put my hands on it in every way, and specially with my Axiom 25 that comes with 8 Drum pads...honestly nothing can replace it now..specially that Stylus comes with it's own Mastering suite and effects, and a full 8 channel mixer with 4 auxiliaries that you can add whatever effect you think about to it...and it's all in on VST...so no need to waste CPU...that's the only software that could replace REDRUM in reason for me>>>
Like you said, Compressors and in general Mastering in Hardware still beats the software...maybe in the next generation of 64 bit computers things will change...but so far Hardwares beat softwares...but i tell you honestly, Instrument and VSTs are almost equal now...your ears can't tell the difference...
If you get the change, try to download the Rapture expansion 1 and 2 from Cakewalk and check the Fattest basses you can ever hear on a VST...that will prove my theory and that what made me sell my Synthesizer and buy a midi controller...
Well whenever you move to Lebanon, let me know, I might pay you a visit, maybe we can produce something together...cause if you do it, I will do it...till then, I will wait for your experience to tell me how things are...
cheers dude, and great talking to you...
Joe
