Well, well, England depressed me!
Missed the games of the last 2 days, but nevertheless quite sad that the Czechs are out of the WC... Had high hopes before the tournament... On the other hand Ghana making it to the knock-out stages is encouraging, coming through such a group (Although in such a controversial fashion) is a great feat, but no matter what African teams do, FIFA will never recognize that... This will lead me to another topic slightly away from the main WC but more about the qualification process...
I hate the allocations for each continent by FIFA, why on earth does Asia always have 4.5 spots, making it possible for 5 teams to make it to the WC, same number as Africa & S. America which is ridiculous, Asian teams didn't do sh*t apart from Saudi's achievement in the US 1994 and S. Korea's fluky and assisted by refs semi-final run four years ago on home soil (Also N. Korea in 1966 but heck, that was ages ago).
S. American teams give the World Cup its special flavor; it's the Europe vs. Latin America traditional competition is amazing! What do Asian teams add to the WC really? It was shameful by the FIFA that they announced prior to the 2002 WC that the only way African teams would have an increased allocation at the next World Cup if an African team makes it to the semis, Senegal were close and made it to the QFs but that didn't help, Brazil win the whole thing yet a S. American team that finishes 5th in qualification still has to go through a play-off! I know it might look weird to have the 10 countries of SA competing for 6 or 7 spots but hey, would fans rather see teams like Japan and Iran or Uruguay and Chile for instance? (I'd rather see the Latin teams at the WC instead)
I don't know if my rant above made any sense whatsoever!
