Name: Laurent Jreijiri aka The Kaa
Musical journey:
Born in 1979, Kaa grew up in Lebanon . Expatriated to France in 1989, he completed his studies there. Influenced by music from his young age, he began taking piano lessons, moving on to creating a rock band during his teenage period as lead guitarist and singer.
In 1998 Kaa decided to take his career seriously and started learning how to DJ by himself, playing in various events, becoming therefore a pioneer of the middle east’s electronic scene. 1999 was the year where he and his Lebanese friends founded the Beirut Underground (Bug System) project, developing the electronic scene through unique events in the Middle East .
After finishing his studies of graphic design and multimedia in a famous visual arts school in Paris, Kaa decides in 2001 to launch his Vj & graphic project, the Visual Suspects. Because according to his philosophy the visuals could not exist without the music, they are two elements intimately linked. He assembled his studio in 2004 and began creating music leaning towards electro-oriental sounds with groovy deep melodies in a typical style of his own.
These two musical and graphic projects will be obviously merging together giving: The Kaa. Being among the first to initialize a new and single performance of a DJ and a VJ together, creating the term of DVJ, an audiovisual concept completely synchronized.
Kaa was part of the legendary UK label: Transient Records, promoting him worldwide. After a while he got called to work for Exposure Productions, a Greek label based in Athens . He has recently joined in 2007 Tribal Vision records as Dvj and license manager. Thus he is promoting the music of artists such as Vibrasphere, Tegma, Fitalic, Roman Rai, Sonic Cube, POTS, Duca, Sonify etc… and he continues on diffusing his audiovisual concept in all kind of events around the world.
Following the steps of his ancestors the Phoenicians, Kaa has performed in many countries such as Mexico, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, the Netherlands France, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, and Hungary… He also played in prestigious venues such as The Mass and the University of London in the United Kingdom , the Trabendo, the Batofar, the Divan du Monde and the Locomotive in Paris , at the B018, the Orange Mecanique and the Black Box in Beirut . In 2002 he was invited to perform at large scale events such as the Techno Parade in Paris and the Street Parade in Bologna . Capable of making videos clips on demand, he was in charge of the visual projections during various showcases for the labels 3D Vision and Moon Spirits records at the Champs-Elysées’ Fnac.
His musical knowledge has made him play with many icons of the electronic scene such as Plasticman, Francesco Farfa, Carl Craig, Kode9, Tall Paul, Antoine Clamaran, Dan Marciano, Hilight tribe, Star Sound Orchestra, Crystal Distortion, Radium, Hellfish, Stella Nutella, Sun Project, Peter Digital, Atmos, Silicon Sound, Jaïa, Toires, Total Eclipse, Solead, Wizzy Noise, Vibrasphere, Dj Kristian, Tegma, Antix, Dj Slater, Hallucinogen, Dj Dimitri…
