It was a great opening ceremony but nothing too "WOW!" about it except the fireworks that they used. Apparently it's some new technology that it can be launched from a building. Lovely design. The water fountains were reprogrammed too! Though this is an unusual programming for the dancing of the fountains. Some seriously expert shit! If you've been to Dubai Mall to watch these fountains, you will know exactly what I am talking about.
The biggest twist was the renaming of the tower which was absolutely jaw dropping! Sheikh Tahnoon made his very first public appearance EVER! For the people who don't know, he is the ruler of Abu Dhabi's little sister, Al Ain (not an Emirate). And he is LOADED more than the Dubai peeps put together.
His appearance raised a lot of eyebrows, yet people expected something out of this world to happen; hence, the renaming of the tower into Burj Khalifa; Khalifa as in Sheikh Khalifa bin Al Nahyan, the President of UAE.
Everyone knew there were going to be conditions for that 10mil AED "help" from Abu Dhabi to Dubai. But no one expected that the Burj would be THAT condition.
Furthermore, for the people who have watched the opening ceremonies of Dubai Metro and Atlantis, you will notice the difference in facial expressions on Sheikh Moe's face between those 2 ceremonies and last night's. You can tell that he is not happy AT ALL! It's as if someone took his baby away from him and named it to something against his will.
Nevertheless, he will move on and come up with something far more better in a few years from now.
Good stuff!
