LOS ANGELES -- Las Vegas Palms celebrity spinner DJ AM -- also known as Adam Goldstein -- was found dead Friday morning in New York City, said TMZ. He was 36.
Law enforcement sources said he was found in his apartment at about 5:20 p.m. They said drug paraphernalia was found at the scene.
TMZ said DJ AM had not been seen or heard from for a few days, and one of his friends went to check on him, but got no response after knocking on his apartment door. The friend called the police, who broke down the door and then found DJ AM's body.
In September 2008, DJ AM and Travis Barker survived a plane crash in South Carolina. Four people died in the crash -- which was caused when the airplane aborted takeoff and then ran off the runway. DJ AM and Barker were the only survivors.
DJ AM spun live music every Friday night at Rain Nightclub in the Las Vegas Palms Hotel and Casino.
DJ AM also performed at Hollywood's most exclusive parties and was known for his relationships with reality TV star Nicole Richie and actress/singer Mandy Moore. He was engaged to Richie, and both called off the engagement in 2005. Moore flew to his side after the 2008 plane crash.
