I know this has gone off-subject, but this is a really interesting topic.
American universities in Lebanon obviously abuse their power and have over-the-odds fees, but the truth is, the prestige thing really works. No disrespect to other universities, but if an employer has a choice between two applicants, one from an American university and the other from a Lebanese one, I don't think there's any competition anymore. And it's not about education, it's about prestige.
And from personal experience, AUB provides some people with more than just an education (I know that's an over-used cliche). I have talked with people who have seen both sides of the fence, and no offense to anyone, but they have all told me that AUB students and grads are different.
Another plus is that it provides that mix of cultures that not many do, and I really think that's priceless.I've actually had friends telling me that, before enrolling in AUB, they wouldn't have even dared imagining that they would be friends with the .. let's say "kind", of people they are friends with now.
On the downside, you always get those people that look down on others, flaunt their money in people's faces and act superior to others. For supposedly educated people, these really show a wrong image of the rest...
